HOPE61 seeks to PREVENT the spread of, and ultimately eliminate the issue of, trafficked and enslaved humans in our world today. We do this by bringing the message of eternal salvation to those that are involved or vulnerable to become involved in human trafficking across the world.
One Mission Society sends HOPE61 missionaries to work with our national church denomination or other in-country church contacts to train and equip national believers to combat this issue, through PREVENTION. We hope to do this in a culturally relevant way and through intentional evangelism of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and discipleship to these groups of lost people.
Our name, HOPE61, originates from the 61st chapter of the book of Isaiah, verse 1:
"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners."
These are the same words used by Jesus to start His public ministry in Nazareth and describe, pointedly, His earthly ministry purpose. His purpose is to release us from the bondage of sin and darkness through the sacrifice on the cross that He would ultimately make on our behalf. We believe, wholeheartedly, that those involved or vulnerable to become involved in human trafficking must be exposed to the knowledge of the risen Lord. Providing them with spiritual freedom will then make physical freedom a natural outgrowth.
